{"id":1300,"date":"2013-07-07T10:47:36","date_gmt":"2013-07-07T10:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/?p=1300"},"modified":"2015-05-25T20:16:49","modified_gmt":"2015-05-25T20:16:49","slug":"finger-lakes-travel-2013-day-5-lyons-ny-waterloo-ny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/finger-lakes-travel-2013-day-5-lyons-ny-waterloo-ny\/","title":{"rendered":"Finger Lakes Travel 2013 \u2013 Day 5 \u2013 Lyons, NY &#8211; Waterloo, NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finally we finished the stretch on the Erie Canal.\u00a0 Really it isn&#8217;t so bad, just hot, and no way to swim to cool off.\u00a0 After leaving Lyons this morning we headed on the eastern trek to the Cayuga\/Seneca Canal Junction.\u00a0 Leaving the final locks of the Erie Canal to now do 4 more on the CS Canal.\u00a0\u00a0The junction is not clearly marked so we had to watch for the buoy with the right number on it to make the southern turn to the canal.<\/p>\n<p>We started to weave our way down the\u00a0 CS Canal and pass more boats and people than we have on this trip so far.\u00a0 Busy little canal this is and still the eastern half of the Erie is closed.\u00a0 Passing cottage after cottage it made us think of the Trent and its many cottages and busy traffic.\u00a0 We made our way past Seneca Falls deciding to stop in Waterloo, NY.\u00a0 Seneca Falls will be a stop that we make on our way back.\u00a0 After we pass lock 1 Seneca is on your right and a beautiful old church stands to greet you.\u00a0 The old buildings along the canal make for a great place to wonder.\u00a0But that will have to be later.<\/p>\n<p>Locks 2 and 3 are flight locks.\u00a0 Each going up 26 ft making the lakes higher than we have been thus far.\u00a0 The lakes drain into the canal which makes its way to the Hudson River.\u00a0 A generating station provides some power for the residents of this area.\u00a0 Lock 4 is in Waterloo.\u00a0 A short lock in height but none the less a grand as the large ones.\u00a0 The locks on the CS Canal are in much better shape than those of the Erie Canal.\u00a0 The only place to stop in Waterloo is either on the terminal wall of the lock or at Oak Island which is a small island on the top of lock 4.\u00a0 A small dock of about 80 ft with no services leaves us running the generator for the night.\u00a0 No problem cause the trade off is a park with ducks and geese to feed, fishing to be done, swimming (finally), and small hiking paths.\u00a0 We are happy campers today.\u00a0 Tomorrow we make our way down Seneca Lake to Watkins Glen.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finally we finished the stretch on the Erie Canal.\u00a0 Really it isn&#8217;t so bad, just hot, and no way to swim to cool off.\u00a0 After leaving Lyons this morning we headed on the eastern trek to the Cayuga\/Seneca Canal Junction.\u00a0 Leaving the final locks of the Erie Canal to now do 4 more on the <a href='http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/finger-lakes-travel-2013-day-5-lyons-ny-waterloo-ny\/' class='excerpt-more'>[&#8230;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[21,23,17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1300","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-21","category-finger_lakes","category-sumex","category-21-id","category-23-id","category-17-id","post-seq-1","post-parity-odd","meta-position-corners","fix"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1300","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1300"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1300\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1503,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1300\/revisions\/1503"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1300"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1300"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.lapointes.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1300"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
